BEST... COMIC... EVER!!!

Hoped you liked the title, took a little time... but guess what I found out now you can Audioblog!! But that's not what this post about, and no it's not about the Simpsons either. I have been reading this Graphic Novel for a while now, and have been meaning to blog about it for some time and now that I have finished reading it I can really say that it is the BEST COMIC EVER!!! The comic I am reffering to is The Watchmen, a great story that has been widely regarded as Alan Moore's best work (he also created many other great titles, such as V for Vendetta). This comic has clearly lifted the standards of comics. It showed the world that they are not just for friendless children anymore. It showed a world where the dark of man is present in all, and even in superheros.

The characters in this series, are amazing, each with their own philosophies, and mindsets, and ranks in the world. Only a few of the superheros, are actually "super" adding to the darkness of the comic. The comic is a very interesting read with a lot of excitement, and to me a little ecstacy (maybe that's taking it too far... maybe not). The world at that moment is sort of in a Incredibles type of time period in which vigilantism has been banned in the United States, and heroes are in hiding. Without revealing too much of the plot, I just have to say the story-telling is amazing in this graphic novel (which it should actually be called since its only 12 issues), it made me feel like I was watching a great epic movie, that had perfect dialogue and scene changes, and flashbacks. It was surreal, even if you aren't a big comic book reader, you will enjoy it, heck it made the NY Times Top 100 Books of All Times (since 1923 (whats up with that)) list...

So check out the Watchmen you will enjoy it... or I'll pay $5 (really I will)

Alright, maybe I did jump the gun, but you read it first and then tell me.

First off I said this comic was dark, because it is darker than most famous comics(i.e. Spiderman, Superman, Fantastic Four) The Hulk is dark, yes, and so is The Dark Night Returns by Frank Miller. But this comic creates a vision of a superhero, who isnt all a do good person. The Hulk can be excused because he is forced into his violence, but the heroes in this are different, they are dark.

Second off, it's not just any list, it's the New York Times. Which is the most acclaimed magazine in the world. Also this list is of novels, the Watchmen is the only comic on the list. Doesn't this make a probability that maybe the writing is exceptional, or that the story telling is great.

I maybe be jumping the gun, but you read it first and then tell me your opinion, it just might not be all hype, as you make it out to be.

I've read a lot. Probably not as much as many comic nerds, but the Watchmen in almost universally acclaimed in just about all comic-reading circles. It's credited, along with Batman: the Dark Knight Returns for making comics more than just "kids books" in the 80s. On top of that, it is just simply amazing. Ask around on the internet, you'll be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't like it with a good reason.

My only beef with it is that I hate most of the characters, and my favorite one dies.
